In a major boost to Nigeria's sustainable energy transition, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to officially commission the Barefoot Renewable Energy College, Kogi State (BARECKS) this coming August.
The landmark Federal Government project is designed to position Kogi State at the forefront of the nation's green energy revolution and educational advancement.
Nurturing a Sustainable Energy Future
The Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, confirmed the scheduled commissioning in a recent press statement. He emphasized that the institution was established to nurture knowledge, drive innovation, and develop a highly skilled workforce capable of sustaining Nigeria’s energy growth.
"Next month, in line with our commitment to a sustainable energy future, we will commission the Barefoot Renewable Energy College, Kogi State (BARECKS), a landmark Federal Government project that affirms that the future of energy begins in the classroom," Dr. Abdullahi stated.
Synergy with the Kogi State Government
The Director-General lauded the collaborative efforts that brought the project to fruition, expressing profound gratitude to the state's leadership for their active role in hosting the facility.
"We appreciate the support and cooperation of the Kogi State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for providing an enabling environment for this transformative initiative," he noted. Dr. Abdullahi also hinted that BARECKS is just one of several strategic projects currently being executed by the Commission across the country.
Aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda
The establishment of the college is heavily aligned with the broader administrative goals of the federal government. Dr. Abdullahi reiterated that to successfully advance the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, the nation must aggressively invest in educational infrastructure.
He concluded by noting that equipping young Nigerians with the necessary skills and knowledge is the most effective way to drive a sustainable and prosperous energy future for the nation.
