The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by its Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat.
According to the statement, operatives of the Akpafa Division intercepted the vehicle during a routine stop-and-search operation along the highway.
The suspect, identified only as Abdulrahman, was reportedly travelling from Edo State to Abuja in a Honda vehicle with registration number FST 700 DH when the police stopped him.
Preliminary investigations allegedly linked the suspect to the sale and distribution of Indian hemp. He reportedly told investigators that the consignment was supplied by an individual known as “Biggy” in Edo State and was intended for delivery to buyers in Abuja.
The suspect reportedly valued the recovered substances at ₦3.2 million.
The police said the suspect and the recovered exhibits had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary action.
The command added that efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest the individual known as “Biggy”, as well as other persons connected to the consignment, including the intended recipients.
It said the investigation was aimed at uncovering the entire supply chain behind the suspected drug distribution network.
The police also urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in identifying and dismantling criminal networks.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended the operatives for their vigilance and the successful interception that led to the suspect’s arrest.
