DEKINA — Suspected armed bandits on Tuesday invaded Government Secondary School, Opada-Olowa, in the Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting the school’s principal, a National Examinations Council (NECO) supervisor, and four students.
The brazen attack occurred at approximately 5:25 p.m. while the students were actively writing their ongoing NECO examinations.
Police Launch Rescue Operations
Confirming the incident in a press statement, the spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, revealed that a combined team of police operatives and other security agencies immediately mobilized and launched a search-and-rescue operation in the surrounding forests.
“During the incident, four students, the school principal, and one NECO ad-hoc staff member were abducted by the attackers,” ASP Saliu confirmed.
However, the prompt response from security personnel yielded early results, as the police spokesperson confirmed that one of the abducted students has already been successfully rescued. Intensive tactical efforts are ongoing to secure the safe release of the remaining five victims and apprehend the attackers.

Underscoring the severity of the situation, top security officials have been dispatched to the affected community. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, alongside the Military Brigade Commander and the State Security Adviser to the Governor, Commodore Jerry Omodara (Rtd), are currently en route to the scene for an on-the-spot security assessment.
